Chinua Achebe forces 50 Cent to rename movie

The foundation managing the works of literary icon, Chinua Achebe, have forced 50 Cent to drop the title of his soon-to-be-released multi-million dollar movie, Things Fall Apart.

The foundation threatened to go court over intellectual infringement, 50 Cent allegedly offered to pay $1million dollars to keep the name, the foundation refused and 50 Cent and his producers had no choice but to change the film's title. It's now - All Things Fall Apart.

NCC Advises Nigerians to Ignore Rumours of Phone-Induced Death

The 'killer' numbers are supposedly 09141 and 091441. So basically, when these numbers call you and you pick = you die! Some people claim that 10 people died in Wukari while receiving calls from these phone numbers. Really? Wow! And some people are buying this? OK!

Anyway, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has advised Nigerians to ignore such rumours. The commission said the claim is false and without any iota of truth, and that nothing like that could happen to somebody responding to a phone, no matter the number through which such calls are made. It is only very gullible people that will believe such a rumour, they said

Bauchi bank attack: Insiders' job - Police

BAUCHI-Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, yesterday said the attacks on a police station and bank in Misau Local Government of the state by suspected Boko Haram members were facilitated by insiders.

The hoodlums had last week raided a first generation bank and carted away about N19.2 million before proceeding to the nearby police station where they allegedly detonated a bomb that razed down the building after shooting five policemen and a civilian, injuring another civilian.

The police said although they have succeded in killing three of the suspected attackers, the ease with which they (attackers) carted away the huge amount of cash from the vaults of the bank; having had a field day showed that insiders were involved.

“The issue of insider involvement was so glaring and cannot be ruled out. While the bank manager escaped, two of the bank staff with the keys to the strong room were around to handover the keys to the bandits with little or no threat.

“Intelligence reports at our disposal indicate that the hoodlums later parked their vehicles at a distance and trekked to the police station.

“Within this period, nobody deemed it necessary to alert the police and at the end of the day, we lost six citizens and about N19.2million cash.’’ Aduba further said that an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene’ he conducted with other police top shots showed that the hoodlums effectively broke into the bank through the door leading to the emergency exit of the banking hall, where they were handed over the keys.

He confirmed that five policemen and a civilian were killed during the two operations, while one civilian sustained gun shot injuries and was currently recuperating in an unnamed hospital, the commissioner lamented.

On the attitude of people towards their security, the Commissioner said, “the command will once again repeat our clarion call that security is everyone’s business and it takes the concerted efforts of the police and the general public to police a community.”

“The Police Force has no magic wand to wipe out crimes and to this extent we have often enjoined members of the public to feed us with necessary information as regards any suspicious movement.”

Pupil files N500m suit against teacher for losing right eye after beating

A 10 year primary four pupil at Okhoro Primary
School, Okhoro, Benin, Miss Blessing Okaeben,
has instituted a N500million suit against her
teacher, Mrs. Mercy Iyobosa Monday at the
Federal High Court, Benin, for flogging and
beaten her with a broom leading to blindness of
her left eye, for failing her Mathematics test.
Joined in the suit are the Edo State Universal
Basic Education Commission (SUBEB), Universal
Basic Education Commission (UBEB), Edo State
Government and Egor Local Government
Education Authority.

In the Originating Motion brought under Order
2 Rule 1 of the Fundamental Rights
(Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 by her
Counsel, Bamidele Igbinedion Esq. Miss
Okaeben asked the court to declare that the
accusation of witchcraft and flogging/beating
with a big cane and then a broom by her class
teacher for failing a Mathematics test
amounted to physical, emotional abuse,
maltreatment, punishment, cruelty, torture,
inhuman and degrading treatment.
She averred that the action of her class
teacher has grossly violated her fundamental
right to respect for the dignity of her human
person as guaranteed by Sections 34 of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
1999 as amended, Article 5 of the African
Charter on Human and peoples’ Rights among
others.
She further plead that court hold that the
blinding of her left eye by the 5th Respondent
after flogging/beaten her with a broom for
failing a Mathematics test while acting as an
agent/servant of the 1st – 4th Respondents
amounted to physical, emotional abuse,
maltreatment, punishment, cruelty, torture,
inhuman and degrading treatment and
consequently a violation of her fundamental
human rights as enshrined in the Nigeria
Constitution, African Charter on Human and
Peoples’ Rights ACT and Section 11 of the
Child’s Rights Act, 2003.
She therefore asked the court to award her
the sum of N100 Million jointly and severally
against the respondents as general and or
exemplary damages/compensation for the
excruciating pains, suffering, slander,
humiliation, inhuman and degrading treatment
and discomfort.
Miss Okaeben is also demanding for an award
of N400, 000Million jointly and severally from
the respondents as general and or exemplary
damages/compensation for unlawful and
unconstitutional blinding and eternal loss of her
left eye, future pains, inconveniences and
suffering.
The primary school pupil want the court to
award to the sum of N175,000,00 jointly and
severally against the Respondents as special
damages for the medical and other expenses
that she has incurred since the incident.
No date has been fixed for hearing of the suit
by the court.

has suffered another devastating
loss. Mc Loph, (real name Nwaozo
Obiajulu) of the Osondi Owendi fame,
is dead.
He died in a car accident along the
Benin/Ore road some hours ago on
his way to his traditional wedding in
the east. He was the one
driving...and I hear his fiancee was
also with him...

The singer confirmed her pregnancy
on at yesterday's MTV Video Music
Award's red carpet. She held her
belly as she arrived Awards Sunday
wearing a long, red dress, and told
photographers - "I have a surprise!"
She also acknowledged pregnancy
during her performance by telling the
audience she wanted them to "feel
the love that's growing inside of me."
And after she finished singing the
song, she dropped her microphone,
popped open her purple sequined
tuxedo jacket, poked out her
stomach, then rubbed it and smiled.
Beyoncé's rep later confirmed the
news.
